Week Two- Nao entendi

Sorry for not blogging for the last ten days or so, we have been making BIG moves.

We spent the last week in Buenos Aires after a romantic 24 hour bus ride from Iguazu Falls with champagne and chick flicks. The only important things to mention about Buenos Aires are:
1. Really cheap (and DELICIOUS) wine
2. Really cheap and delicious food (steak)
3. It´s freezing, especially for gringas from Belem
4. It´s safe to bike there and we biked around the city, accidently going through the BA wall street during lunch hour, unsuspecting business men in nice suits had to avoid us swerving down the sidewalk.
5. Saw two crazy concerts. One band had a conducter dressed in a metalitc silver onesie that hugged his butt...flashback to the 80´s.
6. Most important: rattails and dread-mullets are in style; George, you could fit right in.

A 25 hour CONVENTONAL bus ride later (sem champagne, but with the film streetfighter`) we have returned to our home, and are in Florianopols, Brazil.
It is true, Brazilian soccer fans are way crazier about soccer than Argentinians, and we got here just in time to watch the Brasil v Ivory Coast game. It was a glorious victory and people danced in the rain.

Today was an interesting day commencing with snoozing our alarms many times until we managed to get up and enjoy a delicious fruit-filled breakfast. We decided to hike around the lagoa de something and it was quite nice.
Highlights:
-We had an unpaid guide service, a yellow lab named Gulliver who showed us the route when he could clearly tell we were lost gringas.
-We decided to picnic on a calm scenic dock overlooking the lagoa where we shared in wine, cheese, crackers and many laughs. (hahaha)
-This lunch was especially pleasant when we met the neighbor taking out his recycling. He seemed nice enough due to his childish grin and good looking dreads. So we felt comfortable in giving him a friendly wave on our way back to the trail.
TURNS OUT he was quite naked and masturbating openly in the middle of the trail. Yes, it was terrifying and we shall never discuss this again. Needless to say we booked it, tripping over rocks all the way back to town. O MEU DEUS.]
- Had a safety meeting at the hostel and were looking for a calm relaxed spot to have dinner and decompress (we were a little on edge).
- So we walk into a quiet, empty mexican restaurant that looks a little overstaffed. What started off as another romantic evening just as duas, turned into an unwelcome fiesta with a mariachi bands playing and waiters throwing colorful sombreros on our heads as we internally cried.

Sorry that is so disjointed, our travels are overwhelming. We looked over sitio photos today during our picnic and reminisced about everyone. We miss you all so very much and wished you were here with us.
ISSO! Much Love,
Ellis and Taylor

Day 5- No Hablo Espanhol

Oi Tudo Bem?
So we are now in Argentina, actually been here for 1 or two days. Hard to remember since the past week has been such a blur. We took a 24 hour bus ride from Rio thursday morning that was surprisingly pleasant. Taylor pretty much slept through the entire trip thanks to sleep deprivation and nyquil. George and Ellis passed the time eating different combinations of crackers, cheese, meat and goiabada with a mix of cachaca and mango juice. Fortunately, the bus was not full and everyone was able to sleep in their own row :) We met up with George´s lady friend Sisi (sp?) and her two friends from Steamboat. Taylor and Ellis day drank wine yesterday which led to deep conversations and eventually more drinking later into the evening. Ellis woke up this morning to Taylors legs wrapped around here in a twin bed with George pointing and laughing. There were two more empty beds in the room but clearly it made more sense for us to share last night. The Taylor/Ellis romance was exaggerated today with the fact that it was in fact Dia dos Namorados and we were in the romantic setting of Iguazu falls. Unfortunately our hangovers got in the way of our abiltiy to function and the peak of our struggling was going number 2 on the side of a heavily used public walkway in the national park. Somethings just cannot wait. Of course George was thinking a) that he wish he were fishing and b) that Taylor and Ellis were going solzinho.
Now we are planning our next big moves and it looks like George might actually get his wish. Buenos Aires for Taylor and I and who knows where for George and the Steamboat crew. Either way were all meeting up again in Rio for the June 25th Brasil vs. Portugal world cup match! I hope you all are doing well. Saudades and Boa Sorte with all your summer adventures.
p.s. It is actually cold enough here that they have hot showers! Incredible : )

day 3- pobre jorge!

Let me just begin by saying that we are drinking 51 out of coconuts because we are too cheap to buy drinks in this quase european city, and are com saudades for the fruitas em belem.
Lets back track a little to our first struggle, which actually had nothing to do with ellis and I, but George in fact! After struggling at the airport for hours, almost falling aslep, we went to check in at midnight and George´s reservation did not exist. Turns out his flight left while we were doing warm and fuzzies by the campfire, and he was 24 hours late checking in. Those were some pretty expensive warm and fuzzies. Despite this setback, we worked it out and George did not have to go solzinho.

Arrived in Rio at six in the morning and when we got to our hostel, found out that everyone speaks english and we ended up speaking in Portuguese so people couldn´t understand us....ironic and a little depressing.
Rio is absoluely gorgeous, the beaches are incredibly clean, the water is blue green , the public transportation functions, and we have yet to see a man hole or get splattered in street juices. Despite these things, we are com saudades de Belem e voces.
Bullet point reasons why George might want to kill himself for not going solzinho:
1. Last night we were bombarded on our way out of the hostel, and ended up drinking beers in the sand with two brazilans, one swede, and a columbian (all men) me, Ellis and George.
2. Ellis and I went to get bikini waxes today and George found a fishing shop.
3. Constant ranting about sexy Brazilian men (they are in fact more attrative in the south, by a long shot.
4. we are about to go on a 22 hour bus ride, juntos, to Foz de Iguacu amanha.
Other bullet points:
We had some serious reverse culture shock within Brazil because we went to the grocery store and they had everything we were com saudades for in Belem. dark chocolate, real beer, wine, cheese (but it is all "expensive as shit" -George
gourmet tapioquinas with cheese chicken and oregano, gostoso!
Surprisingly, the area that we are in feels much safer than Belem
People run here A LOT
First day that we didn´t have to shower more than once, it feels cold at night, crazy.
We are going to Foz de Iguacu tomorrow and we are going to start writing things down because we can´t remember the funny things that happen, sorry his rambled. We also haven´t taken a single picture, desculpe.

Day 1- Vai Embora

Already spent the last ten minutes trying to fix our blog title, we obviously spelled "calma" wrong. Hopefully none of our brazilian friends criticize us.
We woke up from our atrocious hangovers, not feeling warm and fuzzy anymore, and had a long day of goodbyes. Lots of internal and external, mostly external crying. Ellis cried about eight times and rocked her sweet glasses which in fact drew more attention to her than crying would have, thus defeating the purpose, but it still looked sweet.
Point is, we miss you all already and this blog is dedicated to our wonderful SIT group. We mostly just can´t live without your banter and since we can´t travel with you, this is the closest we can get to having you with us at all times.
Bullet Points:
Ate two liters of Açai and two dinners. Both look pregnant
Didn´t know where George was until he showed up at the house, never having been there before. Needless to say, we were eating Açai and didn´t get up to greet him, but let him find us in the kitchen, Açai dripping from our mouths (picture Ellis).
George no longer wants to go solzinho (confirmed)
My (Taylor) mom serenaded me in front of the entire family, and George and Ellis. It was hilarious, and I "surprisingly" started sobbing even though I could only understand half the words.
So pretty much nothing has happened yet, just eating and waiting and saying goodbye. Only four more hours until our flight, enough time for several garrafas of cerpa. Hope you all got home safe.
Beijos,
Taylor, Ellis, George
